If Sunny enters Basil's room, he finds a Basil trapped by Basil's own Something. At this point, the story diverges based on what Sunny chooses to do. Sunny wakes up in the middle of the night. After using his skills Calm Down, Focus, and Persist, Sunny learns the skill Overcome, as Something's simplistic appearance fades into Mari's hanging body, swinging in the wind. During their battle, flashbacks of the three old phobias appear as Sunny overcomes them again. On the final night, Sunny confronts Something head-on. These specific fears were affected because of a near-death experience Sunny had falling off a statue into a deep body of water due to a spider. Something has influenced and amplified Sunny's fears for heights, spiders, and deep bodies of water to the point of being irrational phobias. It appears again in Basil's house after he disappears and in the mirror in Cattail Field. It can be first seen if you go north from the stump, it appears briefly over the Water, a few metres from the ladder. After looking back into the garden through the glass sliding door, the sight of the corpse's eye staring back at them traumatizes them. NANCI was originally intended to be fought within BLACK SPACE.Something is a manifestation of Sunny's guilt over Mari's death, representing all of his fears and phobias.Īfter Sunny accidentally pushes Mari down the stairs, Basil speaks words of comfort to him and makes the decision to frame the accidental murder as a suicide.NANCI is one of the two SOMETHING variants fought in only one location, the other being MERCI.This will not be the case if a character has equipped with PAPER BAG. Like with the other minor SOMETHING variants, everyone in the party will be AFRAID at the start of a battle, except for OMORI.In the game's data, the DO NOTHING skill named as LIAR has the description: "Just for the little basil in black space Not for Abyss".However, the text in the game is replaced with " Liar". If it was used in-game, the text mentions " ? sways back and forth". She even has a DO NOTHING skill but it is also unused in-game.This is also because enemies related to BLACK SPACE cannot feel EMOTIONS. Although NANCI has a move ( SELF ANGRY) that turns the user ANGRY, it doesn't work as she is immune to EMOTIONS.It is also evident through the unused DO NOTHING text of " ? sways back and forth".This is evidently apparent with an early encounter of SOMETHING lurking near that location as well. NANCI's presence as a whole serves a dark reminder of SUNNY's repressed memory of MARI's hanged corpse.*This skill is named SELF ANGRY in the game's data. Each calculation is done independently from the previous ones, so the added percentage is not 100%. If the player exits the cave and reenters it, NANCI will appear, moving around. This hallucination quickly disappears afterwards, and the tire swing will disappear. Doing so will cause eyes and hands to appear around the screen, and a black silhouette of hanged MARI will appear with the white eye. To summon her, go into the first cave when you enter the forest, and interact with the tree that has the tire swing. NANCI can be encountered in the VAST FOREST after defeating HUMPHREY. This hints of them manifesting more of themselves into HEADSPACE. On the first visit to LOST LIBRARY, she makes a brief appearance as a silhouette alongside few other SOMETHING variants at the trees near the end of the library.
